Wijdane, the creator behind the brand, learned to crochet from her late grandmother. What began as a skill passed down through generations became something much more: a way to preserve a cherished connection, honour a loved one’s memory, and carry forward a tradition through her own creativity.

Today, every piece Wijdane creates reflects a part of what she learned from her grandmother, carrying that legacy into something new. By choosing her own surname, Bijou, as the name of the brand, she wanted to honour her roots and express the pride she feels in her work. It is her way of keeping that family connection alive while building something of her own.

The Meaning Behind Le Bijou

The name Le Bijou comes from the surname of our brand’s creator, Wijdane Bijou, and also means “the jewel” in French.

For us, the name holds a meaning that goes beyond beauty. It represents something precious, unique, and worth cherishing. Much like a treasured jewel, every handmade piece carries its own character. Our crochet bags and accessories are made with care and intention, using recycled T-shirt yarn to give textile materials a new purpose through creativity and craftsmanship.
